If anyone knows me, they know I love score music. If they really know me, they know one of my favorite composers is Alan Menken. Having scored so many great Disney classics, I still find myself going back over and over to the Oscar winning, The Little Mermaid from 1989. The film is what turned Disney animation around and started a stretch of critical success that had been missing from the company for a long time.
Unfortunately for the score lovers out there, the score seems to be lacking a fullness to the sound. To put it in perspective, in some ways it is as if you were at a concert, but instead you are inside of a very tiny room that was completely sound proof so the music just died against the walls. Or something to the effect that the instruments have no room to breath so they sound flat and dull.
So, I have quickly edited some tracks to add a little "umph". I have uploaded these to youtube and though there is a quality loss in the conversion, I believe the difference can still be heard. Forgive also the crudeness of the presentation as I quickly threw them together.
Hopefully, the 4th release of this soundtrack will get a very much deserved remastering and remixing. Below are the clips. Enjoy!!
If you would like a lossless copy of any of the edited tracks, let me know. I'll let you hear them in their full glory! :) (Supposing you still enjoy score music after listening to these clips and aren't deaf from the horrible edit)
