In 2008, I was already excited for Star Trek, the reboot from J.J. Abrams. Though I had doubts early, as the trailers began to be released I was feeling all the more better about this film being fun and enjoyable. Then as the news was announced that the opening of the film would be moved from December to May for "monetary reasons" I began to lose interest and questions started to arise. Is this really just for money? Is the film even finished? Is it just not that good? Are there issues with editing?
However, J.J. Abrams got the buzz ball rolling and generated major excitement with his 3rd trailer that debuted in front of Watchmen. In fact, it had me so riled up, that I forgot what movie I was even there to see. I wanted to go read up on some new Trek information.
What makes this trailer great in my opinion, is the ability to cut on the music and the smart use of slow motion. It really becomes a trailer that "sets the stage" for the coming film. It showcases the crew of the Enterprise and gives us a glimpse at our nemesis. All while using the music to create a hopeful resonating tone meant to entice the viewer to become part of the journey.
If you enjoy the music, you can buy the track "Freedom Fighters" off the recently released album "Invincible" from Two Steps From Hell.
And now for your enjoyment, the trailer...
